Wood as Your Pool Decking Material

If you’ve decided to kick it old school this summer by choosing a wooden pool deck, first of all – rock on with your bad self. You can officially put “traditionalist” on your resume. Just be sure to do your research when it comes to wood selection (unless you’re a botanist, then your research is pretty much done, so go plant some stuff).

Here are some key things to consider when you’re going through the wood selection process:

  1. Make sure the lumber you want for your pool deck is sturdy and treated with a substance that will keep insects at bay.
  2. Determine which type of wood is best for your climate. For instance, if you live in a rainy climate, you may want to consider composite instead of wood….
  3. Be able to tell the difference between hardwoods and softwoods. However, if you have better things to do with your time (like designing your pool layout or shopping for floating beer coolers), your local decking contractor will be able to give you advice.
