Choosing the Building Material for Your Luxury Pool or Spa

The building material for your luxury spa or pool should be decided upon by you and the hired pool builder. The right material should be strong, dependable, pliable and allow for the most creative design potential. Most importantly, though, the luxury spa or pool material should be within your budget, which should be determined prior to hiring the pool contractor. Most contractors will agree that the best material choice for pool construction is gunite, which is long lasting, sturdy and allows for maximum flexibility. Gunite can be finished to resemble other materials, increasing its design capabilities; however, gunite is also labor intensive and can be one of the more expensive options. For the in-ground pool, gunite is the best choice despite these drawbacks.

Finishes and Other Options

In addition to using gunite, plaster finishes that create special effects or come in a variety of colors can enhance the look of your pool or spa completely. These options should also be considered when you are thinking about materials. Some materials will cost more than others because of the amount of work required to use them correctly. Gunite, of course, is one of these; however, other materials can be labor intensive, too. If you truly want a unique swimming pool or spa, you should use the best materials for your specific design, and keep in mind that the right material for your luxury pool should fit comfortably in your budget and the outcome should complement your outdoor living area.
